Celebrating the festival of lights

India

October was a month that not only brought soothing chilly winds but also days full of festive cheer and happiness for our beneficiaries. The Samarpan Schools and Tuition Centres in Delhi and Bengaluru, celebrated Diwali (the Indian festival of lights) in their own special ways with some engaged in activities like making diyas, colourful charts or decorating the schools while others participated in Rangoli competitions.  Pretty lights were put up in the schools adding to the Diwali cheer.

Special meals and traditional desserts were served to the children at all of the centres. The schools also organized plays and dances on the various themes of Diwali to explain the morals exemplified through the festival.

One of our implementation partners, ‘Fly Higher India’, conducted a life skills workshop incorporating the theme of Diwali within its module in our Shastri Park School in New Delhi. The children enjoyed the day before they went on their Diwali break, looking forward to coming back to school.
