Safety First

New Delhi

On 25 March 2022, students from the educational centre at Kishangarh, Delhi, participated in a road safety event organized by United for Road Safety (URS) and United Way Delhi (UWD). To celebrate  National Road Safety Week, children were invited to participate in an initiative to make them catalysts of change. They were made aware about the increasing number of road accidents and how preventive measures can be implemented. Students from grade 5 up to grade 10 were encouraged to share posters, slogans, working models, articles and jingles on how to make roads safer. Sixty students from Samarpan schools participated in this competition, winning accolades for their work. Chandan (grade 10) grabbed the first position and won a bicycle along with accessories, while Anjali and Shivani of grades 7 and 10 bagged the second place, receiving bicycle accessories like bags, helmets, water bottles and knee pads. A quick quiz session was also conducted at the ceremony for the teachers and parents and one of our teachers also won a prize! The ceremony concluded with snacks for everyone. The students enjoyed the event thoroughly and came away wiser about road safety rules.
